Colour Pop Canvas Materials

Oh boy. This painting is fun!

I wanted to do a blue canvas. Focus on blues, greens, a mellow, calm canvas. The pop of colour was going to be from the yellow and purple in the background (and, on a side note: I’m using purple! I usually don’t because I find it almost Easter eggy in colour but look at me go, 2 days of purple!) Ha. We see how well that turned out.

The flower needed a little… Oomph. Something to beef them up. It was, to be honest, plain. Boring. So I reached for the red and I’m so, so glad I did!

Materials Used:

  • 11″ x 14″ Artist’s Loft canvas
  • Golden acrylic paints: carbon black, manganese blue, teal (fluid acrylic), ultramarine violet, cadmium yellow light, cadmium red light, and light green
  • Liquitex professional acrylic light blue
  • Liquitex professional gesso
  • Neocolor II wax pastels
  • Sharpie oil based paint pen
  • Faber-Castell Pitt pens big brush and brush
  • Staedtler pigment liner

And I did manage to video today’s painting so I should have the up soon too!

Do What You Love, Love What You Do

Something happened. Something inside just, clicked. All of a sudden I feel like this? This is the art in supposed to be making. It’s messy. And chaotic. But it feels so right.

I can’t get over how right it feels to make this. Don’t get me wrong, I love, love, love all the art I’ve been making and will continue to make the different things I do, but this? Is where I was headed all along I think.

Today started with a simple concept. A blue and orange canvas. Easy, lovely colour contrast. But, umm, it grew.

Started adding more and more layers of colours, flowers, and little doodles.
Painted the centers of the flowers white with gesso and then doodled in the centers.

To say I’m happy with the past few days of art is a major understatement.

 This is my happy spot.

I Dream My Painting and then Paint My Dreams

It’s interesting how the colours from one day inspire the next. Yesterday’s page was a complete inspiration for today’s page. I am not normally a bright colours person, but I’m loving these pages!
Today was fun and necessary. I had some bad news that really brought me down and I needed some bright colour therapy to help lift my spirits.

Materials Used:

  •    Liquitex basics acrylic

    • brilliant purple

  • Neocolor IIwatersoluble wax pastels
  • Faber-Castell Pitt pens in white and black brush

Let me tell you, it was looking like the Easter Bunny threw up pastels in here for a while before I got the black and white down on the page. It was that colourful.

 Manicure? Ha!

Graffiti Materials

Sooo, I am kinda in love with today’s page. It’s so bright and cheerful and kind of chaotic and messy too, like a free art wall. It was a lot of fun to play around with and just doodle.

Embrace Imperfections Watercolour Page

Today was a conglomeration of a lot of different materials and techniques. It was messy and fun, the way all art should be!

I set up the camera (really, my iPhone on a selfie stick) and managed to video today’s art so I’ll be working on getting that up tonight.

As I said, a lot of fun today and used some new to me materials. I thought I was going to try out my new Prima Watercolour Pencils but ended up not needing them for this page. I did use my new Neocolor II crayons which were super fun.

    • violet
    • ultramarine

Today’s materials came from The Paint Spot, Michaels, and DeSerres.

Queen of Hearts Canvas

Ok, today’s art is not exactly a canvas; it’s a 6″ X 8″ birch panel. Semantics.

I was feeling pink today. I blame it on the fact that I bought new pink Pebeo paints and couldn’t wait to try them (love them!). I had fun with today’s art and I hope others enjoy it too.

Charcoal Portrait Thoughts

Here is the post for today’s 366 Days of Art piece.  Playing around with charcoal in my 300 Series Strathmore Drawing Journal. I was trying to get the shading around her face right. I think it turned out better than before and I’m sure the more I practice, the better it will get. I look forward to this time next year to see how far I’ve come.

New Video: Follow Your Dreams Canvas

This is a few days later than I’d hoped, but here is my latest video. It’s a speed painting of the Follow Your Dreams Canvas from January 9th.
